About the Film
A Dalmatian Night That Goes Sideways
Južina (Southerly Wind) is a sharp, darkly comic portrait of a night out in Dalmatia that spirals beyond anyone's control. Set against the chaotic warmth of a local bar, the film follows a group of men who gather for what should be a simple evening — only for old grudges, bruised egos, and too many drinks to turn the night into something far more complicated.
Director Ante Marin has a precise eye for the absurdity beneath everyday Dalmatian life — the machismo, the sentimentality, the stubborn loyalty. The result is a film that is at once a character study, a comedy of errors, and a quietly devastating look at what holds people together and what tears them apart.
Loaded with personality and anchored by standout performances from Stojan Matavulj and Donat Zeko, Južina was one of the most talked-about Croatian films of the year — and the perfect opening film for BFF 2025.
